Girl Scout Song Book

Songbook

Compiled by:

Mitchell Girl Scouts

Daisy

tune of Bicycle Built for Two

Daisy, Daisy, we honor your memory true.
We are Girl Scouts all because of you.
We follow the path you started,
And live the law you charted.
We grow and grow, for Juliette Low,
America's proud of you.

I'm a Girl Scout

tune of "Brother John"

I'm a Girl Scout.
I'm a Girl Scout.
Who are you?
Who are you?
Can't you tell by looking?
Can't you tell by looking?
I'm one too.
I'm one too.

She Wears a "G"

She wears a G for generosity.
She wears an I for interest, too.
She wears an R for real–life sportsmanship.
She wears and L for loyalty, for loyalty!
She wears an S for her sincerity.
She wears a C for courtesy.
She wears and O-U-T for outdoor life, outdoor life.
And that Girl Scout is Me!

Take Me Out to the Scout Camp

Tune: "Take Me Out to the Ballpark"

Take me out to the scout camp,
Take me out with my Troop,
Buy me some goodies and leathercrafts,
I don't care if I ever get back,
For it's swim, shoot, climb with the camp staff
If they're not trained it's a shame
For it's 1, 2, 3 miles you hike at the old scout camp

ONCE A GIRL SCOUT WENT TO CAMP

(Tune: Head & Shoulders, Knees & Toes)

Once a Girl Scout went to camp, went to camp
Went to camp without her lamp, without her lamp
And when she saw a spider in her bed,
This is what the Girl Scout said, Girl Scout said:

"Spider, spider, go away, go away,
You are not allowed to stay, allowed to stay
This is what my leader said,
'No two bodies in one bed, in one bed.'"

Once a Boy Scout went to camp, went to camp
Went to camp without his lamp, without his lamp
And there he saw a spider in his bed,
This is what the Boy Scout said, Boy Scout said:
"Aaaaaauuughhhhhh!"

Waddle-ee-atcha
(Movements must be explained with motions)

Waddle-ee- atcha, waddle-ee- atcha
Doodle-ee-doo, doodle-ee-doo
Waddle-ee- atcha, waddle-ee- atcha
Doodle-ee-doo, doodle-ee-doo

It’s a silly song, their ain’t much to it
All you gotta do is doodle-ee-doo it
I like best the part that goes..
Doodle-ee-doodle-ee-doo, Woo!

Going to Day Camp
(Tune: Oh Susanna)

Chorus:    Going to Day camp
So don't you cry for me
I'll come back good and dirty
So you'll never know it's me.

I scrubbed the night before I left,
My hair was nice and clean.
My mother was so proud of me
But not for long you see.

While hiking out at Day Camp,
I found the perfect pet
But I had to leave my friend behind
Because he scared the Vet.  (chorus)

Marching Song

Everywhere we go (echo)
People wanna know (echo)
Who we are
So we tell them
We are Girl Scouts
Mighty mighty Girl Scouts

Sound Off
(Marching Cadence)

I don't know but I've been told,

All Girl Scouts are good as gold.

I am one, and I say it's true,

Scouting's great for me and you.

Chorus:

Sound off: 1, 2,

Sound off: 3, 4.

Bring it on down: 1,2,3,4,1,2,-3,4

Daisies have a disc of blue,

They are Scouts that are brand new.

They are cute and they are sweet

Daisy Scouts are fun to meet.

Brownies have a disc of green

They are second on the scene.

They wear a uniform that's brown,

Their smile song can erase a frown.

Junior level is the next,

A yellow disk is on their vest.

They say that camping is big fun,

And they earn badges one by one.

Cadettes are teens that care a lot,

Their service projects hit the spot.

A white disc is what they wear

The name Girl Scout they're proud to wear.

Senior discs are red, I know.

They are Girl Scouts on the go.

With Wider Opportunities,

Some Girl Scouts go overseas.

Leaders have no disc at all

They come all sizes, big and small.

They share their time and talents too.

They make Girl Scouting great for you.

Row, row, row your boat

Gently down the stream.

Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,

Life is but a dream.

And listen to her scream.

Row, row, row your boat

Hi Ho!

Hi ho, hi ho, it’s home from camp we go,
With dirty hair and underwear,
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho,

Hi ho, it’s home from camp we go,
With shoulders sore and bites galore,
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho,

Hi ho, it’s home from camp we go,
I think my pack just broke my back,
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho,

Hi ho, it’s home from camp we go,
With clouds of dust surrounding us,
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho,

Hi ho, it’s home from camp we go,
It sure was fun, but I’m glad we’re done,
Hi ho, hi ho hi ho hi ho!

Girl Scout Smile (Brownie Smile)

I've got something in my pocket that belongs across my face
I keep it very close to me in a most convenient place
I'm sure you wouldn't guess it if you guessed a long, long while
So I'll take it out and put it on
It's a great big Girl Scout smile.

Make New Friends

Make new friends
but keep the old
One is silver and the other's gold.

A circle's round
It has no end
That's how long I want to be your friend.

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they wrinkle when they're wet?
Do they straighten when they're dry?
Can you wave them at your neighbor
With an element of flavor?
Do your ears hang high?

Do your ears hang wide?
Do they flap from side to side?
Do they wave in the breeze
From the slightest little sneeze?
Can you soar above the nation
With a feeling of elevation?
Do your ears hang wide?

The More We Get Together

Oh, the more we get together,
Together, together,
Oh, the more we get together,
The happier we'll be.

For your friends are my friends,
And my friends are your friends.
Oh, the more we get together,
The happier we'll be!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

(children repeat each line after adult)

We're going on a bear hunt,
We're gonna catch a big one,
What a beautiful day,
We're not scared.

Oh ,oh!
Grass,
Long, wavy, grass.
We can't go over it,
We can't go under it,
We've gotta go throught it!
Swishy swashy, swishy swashy.

We're going on a bear hunt,
We're gonna catch a big one,
What a beautiful day,
We're not scared.

Oh ,oh!
Mud,
Thick, oozy mud.
We can't go over it,
We can't go under it,
We've gotta go throught it!
Squelch squelch, squelch squelch

We're going on a bear hunt,
We're gonna catch a big one,
What a beautiful day,
We're not scared.

Oh ,oh!
A river,
A deep, cold river.
We can't go over it,
We can't go under it,
We've gotta go throught it!
Splish splosh, splish splosh.

We're going on a bear hunt,
We're gonna catch a big one,
What a beautiful day,
We're not scared.

Oh ,oh! A forest,
A big, dark forest.
We can't go over it,
We can't go under it,
We've gotta go through it!
Stumble trip, stumble trip.

We're going on a bear hunt,
We're gonna catch a big one,
What a beautiful day,
We're not scared.

Oh ,oh!
A cave,
A scary, dark cave.
We can't go over it,
We can't go under it,
We've gotta go throught it!
Tiptoe, tiptoe.

(say the following verse all together and quickly)

OH NO IT'S A BEAR!!!
Quick!
Through the cave, tiptoe, tiptoe,
Through the forest, stumble trip, stumble trip,
Through the river, splish splosh, splish splosh,
Through the mud, squelch squelch, squelch squelch,
Through the grass, swishy swashy, swishy swashy.
Run to the house, run up the stairs,
Oh oh forgot to shut the door!
Run back downstairs, shut the door,
Run back up, to the bedroom,
Jump into bed, pull up the covers,
WE ARE NEVER GOING ON A BEAR HUNT AGAIN!!

Bless my underwear

God, bless my underwear
My only pair.
Stand beside them,
And guide them,
Through the holes and the rips and the tears.

From the washer,
To the dryer,
To my backpack,
To my bum!

God, bless my underwear,
My only pair.
God, bless my underwear,
Or I'll be bare.

Pink Pajamas

I wear my pink pajamas in the summer when it's hot.
And I wear my flannel nightie in the winter when it's not.
And sometimes in the Springtime and sometimes in the fall,
I jump between the sheets with nothing on at all.

Glory, glory Halleluiah
Glory, glory what's it to ya?
Sometimes in the Springtime and sometimes in the fall,
I jump between the sheets with nothing on at all.

Grand Old Flag

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Song That Never Ends

This is the song that never ends.
It goes on and on my friends.
Somebody started singing it not knowing what it was,
and they'll continue singing it forever just because,

(start at top again)

My Body (tune of My Bonnie)

My body needs calamine lotion
My body's all red you can see.
The flowers I picked for my mommy,
turned out to be poison ivy!

Dont' touch, don't touch, don't touch the leaves of three, of three!
Don't touch, don't touch, don't touch the leaves of three!

Nobody likes me (Guess I'll go eat worms)

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me,
Guess I'll go eat worms,
Long, thin, slimy ones; Short, fat, juicy ones,
Itsy, bitsy, fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Down goes the first one, down goes the second one,
Oh how they wiggle and squirm.
Up comes the first one, up comes the second one,
Oh how they wiggle and squirm.

This Way Valerie

Tune: Shortenin' Bread

This game works best with a fairly large group. You will need to have the girls get a buddy and then form 2 lines with the buddies facing each other.

This way Valerie, That way Valerie,
This way Valerie all the way home.

Girls join hands with their buddy and sing this part while moving arms in a sawing motion - back and forth

Strut Miss Lucy, strut Miss Lucy,
Strut Miss Lucy all the way home.

Head girl in one line passes between the 2 lines making up any movement she wishes and falls in at the foot of the opposite line.

Here comes another one just like the other one.
Here comes another one all the way home.

Buddy of the previous girl copies the movements just done by her buddy as she passes between the 2 lines and then joins the foot of the opposite line.

Both lines move up a wee bit and repeat the song over and over and over again until everyone has had a turn

He's Got the Whole World In His Hands

When singing this song and you sing "whole world" make a circle with your hands starting at the top and bringing your hands together with palms up and move up an inch or two.

He's got the whole world in his hands (4 times)

He's got the darling, darling Daisies in his hands (3 times)

He's got the itsy, bitsy Brownies in his hands (3 times)

He's got the jazzy, jazzy Juniors in his hands (3 times)

He's got the crazy, crazy Cadettes in his hands (3 times)

He's got the silly, silly Seniors in his hands (3 times)

He's got the Loud Mouth Leaders
(sing loud mouth leaders loud) in his hands

He's got the whole world in his hands (4 times)

I'm a Little Daisy

Tune of "I'm a Little Teapot"

I'm a little Daisy, dressed in blue
I am a Girl Scout, you are too
When I go to meetings, I sing and shout
I love being a Daisy Girl Scout!

Motions:
I'm a little Daisy - hands together, at side of face, head tilted
Dressed in blue - hands pick up hem of uniform smock
I am a Girl Scout - make three finger sign
You are too - point to neighbor
When I go to meetings - hands out, palms up
I sing and shout - hands cup around mouth
I love being a - point to heart
Daisy Girl Scout - clap 3 times, once on each word

The Princess Pat

The Princess Pat (echo)
Lived in a tree(ECHO)
She sailed across(ECHO)
The seven seas(ECHO)

She sailed across
The channel too
and took with her
A ricka bamboo   (chorus)

Chorus:

A ricka bamboo, Now what is that?
It's something made, By the Princess Pat

It red and gold, and a purple too
That's why it's called, A ricka bamboo.

Now Captain Jack
Had a mighty fine crew
He sailed across
the channel too.

But his ship sank
and yours will too
If you don't take
A ricka bamboo  (chorus)

Pick It Up,Pack it Out
(tune of If you're happy and you know it)

If you see some litter hiking, Pick it up,(shout) Pack it out!
If you see some litter hiking, Pick it up. Pack it out
Pick it up and Pack it out,
You can hear the Girl Scouts Shout
If you see some litter hiking, Pick it up. Pack it out!

SOMETHING IN MY POCKET

(Tune- Brownie Smile Song)

I have something in my pocket
That I found behind a log
My leader said to let it loose
But I want to keep my frog

It's cool and green and slimy
And it squiggles in my hand
I also have a wooly worm
And a pocket full of sand

The Bear Song

The other day (echo)

I met a bear
Out in the woods
A way out there
(all together)The other day I met a bear, out in the woods a way out there.

He looked at me
I looked at him
He sized up me
I sized up him
(all together)He looked at me , I looked at him, he sized up me I sized up him.

He says to me
Why don't you run?
I see you ain't
got any gun
(all together)He says to me ,"Why don't you run? ,I see you ain't got any gun.

And so I ran
Away from there
But right behind
Me was the bear
(all together)And so I ran away from there, but right behind me was that bear.

In front of me
there was a tree
A great big tree
Oh glory be
(all together)In front of me there was a tree, a great big tree oh glory be.

The lowest branch
was 10 feet up
I'd have to jump
and trust my luck
(all together)The lowest branch was 10 feet up I'd have to jump and trust my luck.

And so I jumped
into the air
But I missed that branch
Away up there
(all together)And so I jumped into the air, but I missed that branch away up there.

Now don't you fret
Nor don't you frown
Cause I caught the branch
On the way back DOWN
(all together)Now don't you fret, nor don't you frown cause I caught that branch on the way back down.

That's all there is
There ain't no more
Unless I meet
That bear once more
(all together)That's all there is, there ain't no more. Unless I meet that bear once more.
